UI Health Care leadership, with support from the Board of Regents, recently conducted a market review to ensure competitiveness for nursing roles. As a result of this review, market adjustments will be made for positions that were identified most in need of adjustment at this time to remain competitive and is an important investment in our care teams.

About 2,800 staff in nursing-focused roles were notified this morning via email of the market review and that they would be receiving an adjustment. The adjustment amount, which is effective Aug. 1, is based on an individual’s experience and current salary level and salary relationship to the market range. These increases are in addition to the 3% SEIU-negotiated increase that came at the end of the fiscal year.

“We know compensation is an immediate and tangible example of recognition for how our nursing team across UI Health Care supports patients and their colleagues,” says Kimberly Hunter, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, interim chief executive officer, chief nurse executive, of University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, and interim associate vice president, University of Iowa Health Care. “We are committed to listening to, learning from, and investing in our nurses so that they are fulfilled in their role and empowered as ambassadors for themselves, their colleagues, and their patients.”

UI Health Care will continue to review job classifications for competitiveness. At this time, providing market adjustments to a portion of our workforce will help offset the impact created by the national nursing crisis.
